Originally a Dutch sailing barge, Bateau Simpatico was built in 1916 and used for many years to carry coal and steel on the Rhine. It was converted for charter in the early 1970s, and bought by its current architect owner in 1975, who has since refurbished it throughout. It is now moored in Paris, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, in the Port of Suffren.
From its privileged position in the heart of Paris, it is ideally located for visiting the main sights. Nearby there is a twice weekly open-air market, as well as numerous boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Away from the noise and bustle of the streets, access is via a tree-lined entrance to the port and a cobblestone quai, which leads to the deck. From the deck/terrace, there are expansive views of the Seine and the Beaux-Arts architecture of Passy on the opposite bank.
The accommodation comprises two independent quarters, the aft cabin, occupied by the owner and, the more spacious forward apartment, which is available for rentals. The interiors are very stylish and comfortable, converted using traditional materials, yet with modern amenities, including TV, VCR, fax and washing machine.
