Bed & Breakfast / Holiday cottage 't Staaksken is a real Flemish cottage near the border with the Netherlands, in the heart of the Meetjesland Creek area, where time stands still.... The willow-lined canals, lush green pastures and extensive soft, sandy dunes of Flanders need no introduction, their beauty has been captured for centuries by some of the world's greatest artists. The " Meetjesland ", how ever is known only to a discerning few,yet it has much to offer anyone seeking peace an quiet. It one of this rare corners of Western Europe where time has virtually stood still and man has barely changed the face of nature. Today its a land of creeks and polders, tall fields of maize, "sleeping" dikes and old smugglers routes in the north and woodlands in the south which contain beautiful castles and castle farms. The terrain is ideal for cycling, walking, fishing and relaxing.
Our bed & breakfast / holiday cottage is situated atop an old dike, 2 miles from the gastronomic village of Assenede. With a population of 7.000, Assenede is one of tghe oldest villages of Flanders and enjoys the distinction of having many restaurants of internation repute. Flanders is also known for its year-round art and music festivals.
The furniture of our B & B / cottage is Flemish style and sleeps up to five guests in one single room ( Leuitenantsroom ) , a double room with two single beds ( Bornholmerroom ) and a double room with a kingsize bed ( Gardenroom ). From the sitting room / terrace a panoramic view encompasses the garden and pond. At the house FREE bicylces are provided for guest and also FREE fishing. We offer also our guest free museum and papptiser tickets in the local bars and restaurants.
